IHP Project Coordinator, Brain, Education, and Mind (BEAM) Team (STAFF)

Join the BEAM Team, led by Dr. Joanna Christodoulou, and assist with all phases of functional MRI (fMRI) and behavioral studies related to the development of reading. Studies will probe the development of cognitive and neural function in typically developing children and those with developmental disorders (including children with dyslexia and other language-based learning disorders).
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Assisting with fMRI task design
2. Coding experiments
3. Conducting fMRI experiments with children
4. Operating the MRI scanner
5. Analyzing first- and second-level analysis of fMRI data
6. Analyzing MRI data
7. Providing technical support for lab personnel
8. Additional responsibilities may include, but are not limited to: conducting literature reviews, maintaining IRB protocols, organizing and maintaining databases.
9. Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
This is a 40 hour per week position. *Note that this position will support a collaboration between MGH IHP and MIT. MGH IHP is located in the Charlestown Navy Yard, Boston, MA. MIT is located in Cambridge, MA. Public transportation is available between both areas and it will be the primary responsibility of the new hire to be available at both locations as needed.
Training / Time Required To Learn Job Responsibilities:
Foundational programming skills are required; additional and higher-level skills will be taught on the job as needed.
Education & Experience Qualifications:
Requirements: bachelor's degree in a scientific or social science/education field and proficiency in programming languages (e.g. MATLAB, Python or BASH shell scripting). The candidate must be comfortable and experienced working with children and families. Previous research experience with MRI studies is strongly preferred. Relevant coursework in psychology or neuroscience, and statistics, is desired, and knowledge of neuroanatomy is helpful. Prior experience with database management software (e.g. RedCap, Filemaker) is also helpful. The candidate must be self-motivated, mature and able to work in a fast-paced, challenging environment. This position will provide invaluable experience for anyone interested in pursuing graduate study in the fields of medicine, experimental psychology, educational psychology or cognitive neuroscience.
Skills / Abilities / Competencies:
Administrative Skills- database management (RedCap, FileMaker), IRB documents and procedures
Technical Skills- python/BASH scripting and MatLab; statistical analyses using R, SPSS
