The Department of Neuroscience and Center for Brain Immunology and Glia at the University of Virginia are seeking candidates for tenure-eligible Associate and Full Professor positions.
Candidates must have a PhD, MD, or MD/PhD, and at least 10 years of neuroscience and/or immunology research experience, as well as a history of exceptional publications and extramural funding. Incumbents will be expected to run an extramurally funded research laboratory in which post docs, graduate, and undergraduate students will play major roles. The candidate will also be expected to participate in the educational and service missions of the School of Medicine.
As a member of the Center and of the Department of Neuroscience the candidate is expected to interact with other faculty members in developing program project proposals in the area of neuroimmunology/glia biology, participate in Center and Departmental activities, and lead efforts in mentoring trainees and junior faculty members. Areas of focus include, but are not restricted to: neuroimmunology; microglia biology in neurodegenerative disorders; astroglia physiology; and blood-brain barrier function in healthy and diseased brain. A particular interest of the Center is in neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer's disease, neurodevelopmental, and mental/cognitive disorders.
