Primary Function of Organization Unit: The Identity and Web Services Unit (IWS), within the Shared Services Department of the Office of Information Technology at NC State University, is responsible for managing and maintaining the web servers delivering content for the NC State University web presence at www.ncsu.edu as well as web servers delivering content for most academic and administrative web environments on campus including the cPanel and hosted WordPress environments. The unit is also responsible for managing and maintaining Identity Management Services as well Shibboleth, Kerberos, LDAP and other middleware services.

Essential Job Duties: NC State University is accepting applications for a career opportunity within the Identity and Web Services Unit of the Shared Services department. This position will focus on the installation, upgrade, patching, troubleshooting, and management the Apache web server software and cPanel-based web hosting service that deliver web content for North Carolina State University and many other enterprise/college/departmental/program-level web servers/services of the University. The Web Services Administrator assists in supporting enterprise web authentication across the university web servers and also directly supports the cPanel based web hosting environment. The Web Services Administrator provides technical leadership and expertise necessary for the installation, administration and maintenance of the middleware, integration, database and systems software infrastructure, including operating systems, to support the processes and strategic initiatives of the University. Using thorough knowledge of web processes and implementations, the Web Services Administrator will identify trends and recurring problems and develop/implement appropriate solutions. The Web Services Administrator will assist management in establishing technical standards and processes and can develop advanced solutions to improve operational performance.

Minimum Education/Experience:

Department Required Skills: Must be familiar with installing and configuring Apache web server software, troubleshooting htaccess files, especially rewrite rules, have some knowledge of php support, mysql support, DNS, openssl, and SSL key/certificate processes (or familiarity with similar/comparable software and processes.) Strong scripting skills (bash, php, Perl.) Must be comfortable in a linux environment (redhat/centos/fedora). Should be able to add rpm software to linux. Must be able to add software from source and have experience loading a linux machine from bare vm/hardware. Must have strong communications skills as this position will be involved in helping customers debug problems. Good documentation practices are essential.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: At least three years of experience managing Apache web server software in a high-volume, load balanced environment. Experience managing cPanel and WordPress sites experience. Experience installing and supporting cPanel software. Experience with Content Management Systems (particularly WordPress) environments. Familiarity with Shibboleth or other web SSO systems. Training experience. Experience with AWS or other cloud technologies.
