Posting Summary:
The Department of Microbiology, Immunology, and Cancer Biology at the University of Virginia is seeking a Research Scientist to work in the laboratory of Dr. Andrew Dudley. The Dudley lab focuses on the tumor microenvironment and the role it plays in the progression of cancer. Specifically, projects in the lab focus on the activation of myofibroblasts and tumor endothelial cell biology.

Candidates must have a PhD in cell or molecular biology or a related field, seven years' postdoctoral experience, and the proven ability to lead a project and supervise and train laboratory support staff and students. Candidates with postdoctoral experience examining the physiologic properties of cells and the underlying mechanisms for how cells respond to the environment and knowledge of the tumor microenvironment and in particular how different cell types and environmental inputs influence how tumor cells survive, grow, and resist therapy are preferred. Particular preference is given to candidates who have prior experience studying endothelial-to-mesenchymal transition and myofibroblast activation. Preferred specific skills include: mammalian cell culture, transfection, transduction, immunofluorescence, generation of stable cell lines, handling of mice for xenograft studies, western blot analysis, flow cytometry, chromatin immunoprecipitation, immunohistochemistry, and drug studies in vitro and in vivo.
