Degree and Area of Specialization: Bachelor's Degree in Hospitality, Food Service or Related Specialty OR Equivalent of 5 years of Food Service Management Experience preferred.
Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience: -Serve safe certification preferred
-Five or more years of experience working in a self-operated college dining program preferred
-Career progression within a dining or food service operation preferred
-Experience managing multiple free standing dining operations preferred
-Experience overseeing an operating budget of $1.5 Million or more preferred
-Two or more years managing and maintaining a student work force within a food service operation preferred
-Experience promoting a diverse environment preferred
Position Summary: The Division of University Housing is committed to providing an exceptional workplace for its workforce of approximately 450 career staff members and over 2,000 students. University Housing operates nineteen residence halls across the University of Wisconsin - Madison campus, providing a home to over 7,400 undergraduate students. We also operate three apartment communities, serving about 3,000 graduate students, academic staff, postdoctoral researchers, faculty, and their families. In addition, we manage seven dining venues across campus, and provide conference group and youth camp housing throughout the summer months.
University Housing is divided into five main departments: Administration, Dining & Culinary Services, Residence Hall Facilities, Residence Life, and University Apartments. Dining and Culinary Services has locations in six buildings throughout campus, including Markets, Convenience Stores, Catering, and Coffeehouses. Dining and Culinary Services provides affordable and innovative dining options to residents, guests, and staff.
Under general direction from the Director of Dining and Culinary Services (DCS), the Assistant Director of Operations will assist in leading the department to the goal of creating exceptional guest experience with extraordinary food in all areas of the operation.
To support the achievement of this goal, this position is responsible for development of the dining and special event experiences within Dining and Culinary Services. This position will give strategic and operational guidance and provide opportunities for staff to develop professionally in a variety areas. In addition, the Assistant Director of Operations will seek opportunities to gather feedback from guests and provide leadership to the operations to adjust to and exceed guest expectations.

Additional Information: -Physical Requirements: Periods of standing, walking, and frequent lifting of objects weighing approximately 50 pounds; frequent pulling and pushing of carts weighing approximately 200 pounds.
-A driver's license which meets the UW Risk Management Standards is preferred.
Primary schedule below; schedule alterations as operation and position expectations demand.
