The Surgical Dental Assistant will assist faculty and residents of the Pediatric and Adult (GPR) Dentistry programs with daily patient schedules by using four-handed/chair side and expanded-duty dental assisting skills. This position will assist with oral and I.V. sedations.

In addition, this position will be trained to work in the Center for Advanced Surgery, assisting with dental procedures performed under general anesthesia, as well as assist with patients who are medically, mentally, and physically complex, including the use of restraints and special devices and patient management techniques.

The person in this position may, on occasion, provide back-up coverage for Dental Assistants and Dental Therapists at various levels in other UK Dental Clinics both on and off campus.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

At least 2 years' experience as an expanded duties dental assistant in general and/or pediatric dentistry; radiation safety certificate; knowledge of proper infection control techniques in dentistry.

Expanded duties certificate; Coronal polishing certificate; experience assisting with sedation and working in the operating room environment; experience working in a pediatric dentistry setting; knowledge of implant procedures is desirable.
