Lewis University invites applications for an adjunct faculty member to teach graduate level courses for the concentration in Computational Biology and Bioinformatics portion of the Master of Science in Data Science program. Classes will be delivered in an online setting and/or on site as 8 week long course sessions.

The instructor will be expected to teach using previously developed syllabi and course design, with modifications as deemed necessary upon consultation with the department chair and program director. It is expected that instructional methods will utilize biological data sets or problems as a basis for hands-on application of appropriate computational analyses, simulations and/or visualizations.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Teach one or more classes; courses may include BIOL 50900 (Introduction to Computational Biology), 51000 (Data Systems in the Life Sciences), 51200 (Research in Biotechnology) and/or 59000 (Data Science Project for Life Scientists)
  • Availability to hold office hours and meet with other faculty members and department chairs or directors when necessary
  • Serve as a model of professionalism and act as a resource for students within the teaching-learning environment

Qualifications:

Master’s degree or PhD in a field related to data science or the life sciences and experience in the field of computational biology/bioinformatics.  Previous teaching experience preferred.
