Science Lab Technician 1
The position of SCIENCE LAB TECHNICIAN I is available in the Division of Academic Affairs. This position is on a full-time, 12-month basis coordinating with the Science Lab Manager and working under the supervision of the Division Chair of Sciences. FUNCTION: Responsible for providing technical laboratory assistance to science faculty. Specific responsibilities include: setting up and dismantling instructional laboratory exercises for both students and instructors following safety guidelines for all lab courses; maintaining and cleaning lab facilities and equipment; communicating with faculty to ensure smooth operation of laboratories; communicating daily with Lab Manager about concerns and issues that may arise; maintaining inventories of chemicals and equipment and communicating supply needs to the Lab Manager; maintaining collection of bacterial stock cultures; updating MSDS notebooks as needed; collecting lab schedules from all science instructors and performing other duties as assigned. REQUIREMENTS: Associate degree in a science-related subject with at least 20 credits in lab courses. Broad knowledge of technical lab procedures, analytical techniques and terminology. Minimum of one year’s experience in a lab environment preferred. Ability to prioritize and work autonomously. SCHEDULE: Monday – Thursday 11:30 a.m. – 7:30 p.m. and Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. SALARY: Grade 6, on the 12-month Support Staff Salary Scale. Minimum starting salary: $29,584. Includes excellent fringe benefit package.
