Assistant Professor of Psychology

The School of Human Sciences at Abraham Baldwin College invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Psychology. The successful candidate must demonstrate teaching excellence, serve as academic advisor to students in the School’s programs, produce effective scholarship, engage in collaborative research and/ or extra-curricular activities with undergraduates, and engage in service to the institution and the profession. A demonstrated ability to both teach and model “best practices” in the classroom is required. Teaching responsibilities include lower-division introductory courses such as Introduction to Psychology, Psychology of Adjustment, Human Growth and Development and Abnormal Psychology. Additionally, the position has shared responsibility for the teaching of upper division courses within the unique Rural Studies baccalaureate program. These upper level courses specifically address issues appropriate for the Social and Community Development concentration such as Rural and Community Psychology, Workplace Psychology, Counseling, Aging, and Psychology issues in community health settings.  This is a full time ten month tenure track position.  Open until filled.

Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College is a residential state college located in Tifton, Georgia, named one of the best 100 small towns in America. The college offers associate and baccalaureate degrees and has an approximate enrollment of 3400.

The successful candidate must work effectively as a member of a faculty team to continually update and improve the degree concentrations within the School of Human Sciences. The successful candidate should have a thorough understanding of qualitative and quantitative research methods, and ability to supervise and assess mentored research by students in the Rural Studies concentration. The successful candidate must demonstrate a spirit of civic engagement and work effectively with community leaders to enhance the student learning experience and to seek community relationships that provide field trip, practicum, research or internship experiences for students. The faculty evaluation addresses teaching, scholarly activity, professional development, and service. The typical teaching load is 4-5 courses per semester.

PhD in Psychology required, an open area, community psychology, applied, or health psychology would be a particularly good fit.
