Assistant Department Chair Role & Responsibilities
Founded in 1979, The Chicago School of Professional Psychology is an independent, regionally accredited not-for profit professional graduate school with a dynamic student body and a professionally accomplished faculty. Our curriculum and training opportunities prepare graduates to deliver outstanding professional services emphasizing the ability to understand and work with diverse populations.
At The Chicago School, we define Applied Clinical Psychology as practical application of clinical psychology techniques concerned with the assessment, case conceptualization, and treatment of mental illness and disability. The program equips graduates with the skills necessary to succeed as licensed clinical psychologists in a variety of settings.
The Assistant Chair provides support to the Chair for the well-being of the department as it relates to education in the field of Clinical Psychology. The Assistant Chair provides management and oversight in strategic areas of the academic programs under the direction of the respective Department Chair. The Assistant Chair position receives substantial mentoring from the Department Chair.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Serve as a liaison among students of the Department, the faculty, and other administrators.
- Departmental schedule of classes and teaching assignments for fall, spring and summer sessions on his/her respective campus and communicate course schedules to Department Chair
- Assist with recruitment of faculty and students for the Department.
- Collect and manage data for annual program review
- Participate in due process required for faculty, students, or staff as described in current policies or procedures.
- Represent the Department at Information Sessions, New Student Orientation and other related events on his/her campus.
- Serve as ADP Manager for his/her respective campus
- Serve as faculty advisor to students on his/her respective campus
- Create workshops/seminars to be held on campus 1x per semester to serve as outreach opportunities as well as additional educational opportunities for the students
- Present a didactic training at a local agency/counseling center 1x per semester
- Attend faculty meetings
- Teach 12 units of coursework per academic year
- A doctoral degree in the relevant discipline with appropriate license or license eligible
- Experience in teaching at the graduate level
- Strong potential for or proven record of excellence in instruction
- Experience with online as well as on ground teaching formats
- Strong organizational skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Ability to interact successfully with academic as well as admissions and regulatory personnel
- Work effectively as either a leader or team member to insure that departmental goals are met by providing support to staff and always keeping students' and graduates' best interest as a priority
- Ability to be flexible and working in an environment of expansion and change
- Strong commitment to working as part of a team
