Job Summary Incumbent will be responsible for managing and conducting high-throughput nematode-resistance phenotype screening to support soybean breeding efforts. The specific responsibilities of the laboratory manger include, but are not limited to: evaluation of breeding materials for nematode resistance in the greenhouse including planting and growing soybean, preparation and application of nematode inoculum to soybean entries, data collection and entry, and data analysis and interpretation; maintain pure cultures of plant-parasitic nematodes and quantitative assessment of nematode-resistance phenotypes as appropriate for each genus and species of nematode; conduct process improvements to improve the efficiency of nematode resistance evaluation and data quality; provide support to graduate student and postdoc projects in evaluation of nematode resistance; train and supervise undergraduate student workers for lab activities; and provide support to the field soybean-breeding program as needed. The incumbent is the lab safety contact person for the soybean nematology lab. Minimum Qualifications Bachelors degree and 6 years experience or equivalent combination required. Specialty certification may be required. Masters degree preferred Area-specific certification (i.e.; SCUBA) and training may be required. Other training will be provided as appropriate (i.e.; UGA HazMat training and/or Radiation Worker Certification).
