Job Description

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE:

The Director of External Relations for CSAM will manage and coordinate the established and growing number of programs, services and partnerships that involve external entities and support and benefit our students and College of Science and Mathematics (CSAM). The Director, in addition to nurturing and growing collaborations with industry, is the primary individual within CSAM responsible for the strategic management and expansion of the Continuing Environmental Education for Professionals (CEEP) program, a collaborative program between the CSAM Dean's Office and the University's Office of Online and Extended Learning. In this capacity, the Director works with CSAM, the Office of Online/Extended Learning, and the CEEP Advisory Council to set the strategic direction for the Program, establish annual goals, and manage relationships with external organizations including the NJDEP, CIANJ, and SLRPB. Through these and other external relationships, the Director will identify new, high-demand continuing education training needs for possible inclusion in our course roster and proactively pursue relevant training grant opportunities. The Director will also be responsible for advancing private-public partnerships that involve the College of Science and Mathematics with a focus on facilitating collaborative activities with industry by serving as the central point of contact for industry, government and other external organizations and serving as a conduit and liaison in creating and maintaining and growing partnerships and collaborations.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Established programs and activities overseen and coordinated by the Director include:
• PharmFest, TechLaunch Future Scientists Program, Emerging Science Lecture Series, CSAM Discovery Day, Homecoming Science in Action, Research Symposium, and other programs that foster engagement between the College and the external community
• Use and oversight of specialized external use of CSAM facilities (e.g. CELS incubator space, laboratory services)
• Facilitation of licensing of university-owned patents and technology invented by CSAM faculty; non
disclosure agreements; and faculty fee-for-service contracts.
• Coordination and oversight, in partnership with the MSU Office of Continuing Education, the CSAM Continuing Education for Environmental Professionals (CEEP) program
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Requirements

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE:

The Director will hold a masters degree in a field relevant to the College of Science and Mathematics or a masters-level degree in business or entrepreneurship. Experience in designing collaborative programs in an academic setting and/or managing such programs is essential. An entrepreneurial spirit is imperative. Individuals with baccalaureate degrees and at least five years of relevant experience will be considered.
