Duties/Responsibilities

This position exists to teach courses in the Technical Communication program. Specific responsibilities include the following activities:
1. Teach 12 credit hours per semester of undergraduate coursework
2. Advise students
3. Provide service to the department, college, university and community
4. Participate in scholarly activities appropriate to the discipline as described in the Department Evaluation Guidelines
5. Other duties as assigned including faculty on reassigned time to serve in roles such as Department Chairs or Directors.
Teaching may include the following courses: Basic, Intermediate and Advanced Video Production; Basic, Intermediate and Advanced Video Editing, Script Writing, Audio Production, Introduction to Media Production and others.
In addition to teaching, the position will require a minimum of five office hours per week to include advising and consultation with students. Candidates will be expected to teach in the classroom as well as online, and must be able to use and apply current technologies in the classroom.
The University is particularly interested in applicants who have experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and a demonstrated commitment to improving access to higher education for under-represented groups.



Required Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in Technical Communication or related field and a minimum of 6 years of related experience; or Doctoral Degree in relevant field



Preferred Qualifications

• Current and relevant experience in the use of digital media, video formats and editing software and other technology that relates to the video production field.
• Ability to teach the following courses: Basic, Intermediate and Advanced Video Production; Basic, Intermediate and Advanced Video Editing, Script Writing, Audio Production, Introduction to Media Production, Social Documentary (for course descriptions refer to http://catalog.msudenver.edu/preview_program.php?catoid=23&poid=5554).
• Two years teaching in higher education in a relevant field.
• Demonstrated writing skills in the discipline.
• Experience in relevant course development
• 7 or more years of successful professional experience writing, producing and editing video programs for industry, broadcast, government media agencies, production houses or other relevant fields.
• Preference will be given to candidates who have demonstrated excellence in video production, editing and writing in the form of awards from juried or adjudicated film and video festivals or awards from other professional organizations such as the Emmys.
• Experience with non-traditional students, diverse urban groups and the ability to use appropriate educational technology
• In particular, we seek candidates who demonstrate the ability to teach from a perspective that includes U.S. ethnic minorities, other marginalized groups, and/or women.
