I. Summary of Position

The Committee and Project Manager (CPM) will lead efforts within the Residential Programs unit to develop and sustain several vital campus-wide initiatives including key strategic administrative structures to bring innovation to 80+ dorms across the entire residential system. In close collaboration with the chairpersons, s/he manages the work of the following Residential Programs committees: University Residential Cabinet, Faculty Residential Programs Faculty Advisory Board, and the Residential Learning Environments Working Group. In addition, the CPM will be a primary liaison with our key partners (e.g., Residential Education, Residential and Dining Enterprises, Vice Provost for Teaching and Learning) and support new high priority residential projects such as the creation of new Integrated Learning Environment programs and the Stanford Sustainable Living Lab in Roble.

Core Duties
  • Lead the planning, operation, and execution for several new academic initiatives related to leadership and guidance for Stanford's residential system.
  • Develop new and effective administrative committee structures to facilitate collaboration and shared ownership among all campus partners as it relates to complex residential issues.
  • Manage the logistics of committee support including faculty and staff membership, policies, scheduling, reporting, and documentation.
  • Support the Residential Programs unit and/or other faculty or staff with planning and implementation for special projects emerging from committee work or departmental initiatives.
  • Manage and contribute to the development of an outreach strategy including relationship development, external communications, and compliance.
  • Represent the program or function at the university level and/or to external constituencies.


Education & Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree and five years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience. Advanced degree strongly preferred.
  • Experience in higher education administration preferred.
  • Experience working with university faculty preferred.
  • Experience working in residential education and residential programs preferred.
  • Experience in project management of complex new initiatives preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Demonstrated knowledge of academic operations and organization of a decentralized research university.
  • Ability to work with students, staff, and faculty in a collaborative strategic environment as well as coordinate and oversee daily project management efforts.
  • Ability to work proactively and creatively in imagining new approaches and structures in a complex decentralized environment.
  • Fosters and maintains effective collaboration, trust, teamwork and respect; effectively interfaces with a diverse community.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish priorities, manage shifting priorities, and handle numerous time-sensitive projects with multiple deadlines.
  • Ability to accomplish goals working through formal and informal channels, with diplomacy and tactfulness.
  • Demonstrated solid planning and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated experience working independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work occasional extended hours or weekends.

The mission of the Office of the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education (VPUE) is to partner with Stanford faculty, staff, and students to produce and educate knowledgeable, engaged citizens and creative, confident leaders for our future world. To this end, VPUE oversees a variety of residential programs and committees which shape the residential experience for all undergraduates towards academic and personal transformation.

The Residential Programs Unit is a unit within VPUE with a focus on providing educational coherence for residentially based programs, students and faculty.
