The Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics (EPBI: http://epbiwww.case.edu/) at Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) School of Medicine invites candidates to apply for a faculty position, open rank, to further enhance our biomedical data science research and educational activities. The successful applicant will also have an appointment in the Institute for Computational Biology (ICB: http://www.icompbio.net), a Cleveland-wide effort to provide access to electronic health record (EHR), genomic, and other biomedical data and the computational resources and expertise to successfully mine and analyze these data.

The successful applicant will have a strong independent research program that develops and applies novel computational and statistical methods to biological and clinical data for advancing biomedical and healthcare research and subsequent application. Faculty rank will be determined through CWRU’s multi-level review process focusing on such past achievements as the candidate’s publication record, degree of national level activity and recognition, and funding history. Preference will be given to candidates developing methodologies for analysis of biomedical Big Data, including EHR, ‘omic, and environmental data using machine learning, data mining, data visualization, and cloud computing techniques. They will also have a strong interest in participating in our active and growing graduate MS and Ph.D. programs (~135 students) in health informatics, bioinformatics, biostatistics, population & quantitative health sciences, and public health. Collaborative research and team science are critical components of this position.  A competitive recruitment package and excellent benefits will be provided.

The successful candidate will have a PhD, MD/PhD, or equivalent in biomedical informatics, computer science, information sciences, biostatistics, or a related field and must:

  • enjoy working in a collaborative academic health care setting
  • collaborate within and across disciplines and sectors
  • teach and advise graduate students with a commitment to excellence
  • have a track record of scholarly research and a strong publication record
  • have demonstrated the ability to secure and maintain external funding commensurate with rank. 

The city of Cleveland is internationally known as a center of excellence in health care, medicine, and medical education, which is exemplified by multiple cross-institutional initiatives including the Case Comprehensive Cancer Center (http://cancer.case.edu/), the ICB, and our CTSA (http://casemed.case.edu/ctsc/) . The EPBI department consists of 35 primary faculty members and more than 100 affiliated faculty members across Cleveland (from the Cleveland Clinic, the University Hospitals of Cleveland, and the MetroHealth System). The EPBI faculty have access to over 40 institutional core facilities including the Data Analytics core and the High Performance Computing Center.
