Primary Function of Organization Unit: The NCSU Libraries serves as the gateway to recorded knowledge and information for the NC State University community and its partners, offering a competitive advantage in attracting and retaining the best faculty and students to the university. For more information about the Libraries, please see http://www.lib.ncsu.edu/aboutthelibraries/ The Research Engagement department engages with faculty members, researchers, and students across the full lifecycle of research and scholarship, offering dynamic services, spaces, and technologies to enable all forms of research, discovery, and learning, and connecting faculty and graduate students with a full suite of resources for research and teaching productivity. The department's librarians collaborate with faculty and students on emerging technologies for research, visualization, data curation and management, bibliometrics, and computational analysis in an evolving scholarly communication environment. They build programs and partnerships that enhance research productivity and competitiveness, support interdisciplinary collaboration, foster inclusive spaces for early career researchers, and conduct research consultations. The Head, along with the Head of Collections & Research Strategy, reports to the Chief Strategist for Research Collaboration.

Essential Job Duties: The Head, Research Engagement leads an engagement-centered program that supports research productivity through access to expert assistance, research-enhancing technologies, and innovative services across the lifecycle of research, scholarship, and pedagogy. S/He directs and coordinates the activities of the department, guides and oversees the professional development of staff, sets goals and objectives, and envisions strategies for engaging the research enterprise. The Head works to promote innovative, effective models for collaborating with and supporting researchers, identifying and introducing emerging research services to the community. S/He participates in library planning and serves on library-wide committees, task forces, and teams. NCSU librarians are expected to be active professionally and to contribute to developments in the field.

Minimum Education/Experience: ALA-accredited MLS, MIS, or equivalent advanced degree.

Department Required Skills: * Relevant professional experience in leading and managing research services, including personnel management/supervision * Demonstrated success engaging and collaborating with faculty to support their research and teaching * Knowledge of emerging models of research collaboration in library and academic environments, including data and visualization methods, tools, and technologies * Demonstrated ability to lead projects and teams * Relevant experience fostering interdisciplinary scholarship and partnerships * Evidence of effective collaboration with a diverse population of faculty and students * Excellent interpersonal skills; excellent oral and written communication skills; and ability to represent the Libraries to university and external audiences * Demonstrated record of ongoing professional development and contribution

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: * Experience partnering with faculty on grant proposals * Demonstrated record of budget management and oversight * Demonstrated experience collaborating with STEM disciplines
