The Department of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) in the Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering invites applications for a tenure stream appointment in Mechanical Properties of Materials at the rank of Assistant Professor. The appointment will commence on July 1, 2017.

The successful candidate will show leadership, innovation and excellence in research and teaching in the area of mechanical behaviour of materials. Candidates should have demonstrated excellence in research and experience in teaching. He/She is expected to have solid theoretical background and extensive research experience in one or more of the following specific areas: dislocation theory, deformation mechanisms, fatigue, fracture mechanics and mechanisms, and failure analysis. Experience in electron microscopy, stress-strain analysis and FEM simulation of deformation behavior will be assets.

Applicants are expected to have a PhD or equivalent in Metallurgy, Materials Science and Engineering, or a related field, by the time of appointment or shortly thereafter.

Postdoctoral or industrial experience is an asset. The successful candidate will be expected to initiate and lead an independent research program of international calibre, and to teach at the undergraduate and post-graduate levels. Evidence of excellence in research can be demonstrated by research of an internationally competitive calibre, as evidenced by publication in leading journals in the field, presentations at significant conferences, and strong endorsements by referees of high international standing. Experience in teaching will be demonstrated through teaching accomplishments, strong letters of reference and the teaching statement submitted as part of the application.

Eligibility to register as a Professional Engineer in Ontario is strongly desirable.
