The Princeton Computational Memory Lab, led by Professor Ken Norman, is seeking a postdoctoral research associate to work on NIH-funded studies of human learning and memory in collaboration with Professor Nicholas Turk-Browne. The specific goal of this project is to study how competition between memories can lead to representational change (i.e., memories overlapping more or less with each other), using fMRI and computational models. The postdoctoral researcher's primary responsibility will be designing and implementing fMRI experiments to test the predictions arising from our neural network model of competition-dependent learning. A major focus of the project will be developing and using novel multivariate fMRI analysis techniques to track memory competition and representational change. The postdoc will also have the opportunity to contribute to the computational-modeling side of the project. The Norman lab is part of a highly collaborative network of labs at Princeton that are using computational methods to enrich neuroscience theory and data analysis, ranging from the Cohen, Daw, Hasson, Niv, Pillow labs in Neuroscience and Psychology, to the Engelhardt and Ramadge research groups in Computer Science and Engineering. Essential qualifications for this position include: a Ph.D. in Psychology, Neuroscience, Cognitive Science, Computer Science, Engineering, or other related field; a strong publication record of original research in cognitive, systems, and/or computational neuroscience; and fluency in Matlab and/or Python programming.
The position will provide training in neuroimaging and computational methods, but we prefer applicants who already have experience with fMRI and multivariate analysis methods.
