Psychology - Augustana College, Rock Island, Illinois, invites applications for one or two full-time Teaching Fellow positions teaching Introduction to Psychology beginning August 2017. Augustana College is a selective liberal arts college of 2,500 students, most of whom live on a wooded 115-acre campus. Rock Island, Illinois is part of the Illinois-Iowa Quad Cities along the Mississippi River, a diverse metropolitan area with 400,000 residents approximately three hours west of Chicago.
For the past several years, individuals hired for Teaching Fellow positions have been ABD graduate students.We also welcome applications from candidates who have completed their PhD and are looking to enhance their teaching experience.We encourage applicants with demonstrated success in working with diverse populations.Teaching Fellows at Augustana participate in the same support, mentoring, and training sessions provided for recently hired tenure track faculty at the college. We hope this experience will lead to professional growth for the Fellow; it can also lead to detailed and convincing letters of recommendation concerning teaching and collegiality.
The teaching load for this position is seven courses (two or three per ten-week trimester term), though most of our past fellows have taught six courses for 6/7 salary.Salary will be dependent on the number of sections taught.We typically allow no more than 30 students in our introductory courses.The fellowship could potentially be renewed for a second year.We require no campus service (no committee responsibilities, student advising, or admissions work) from a teaching fellow, although the individual is welcome to become involved to the degree that they are interested and able.
