Land Surveyor/Surveying Technician
"Job Purpose & Description
The primary purpose of this position is to assist the other team staff with many of the hands-on tasks associated with producing a complete client land development project. This includes CADD drafting, elementary computations and client communications. The objective of this position is to assist the team staff in delivering a service to the client that meets the requirements of our agreement as to type and quality of services and timeliness of completion while meeting company goals of team and firm profitability.
Draft boundary, topographic & as-built surveys, including utility as-builts to meet governing body and company QA/QC requirements. Draft revisions as required by client or reviewing authorities.
Assist in developing a plan of action for assigned projects.
Communicate with the team Engineer and/or Designer to insure that field crews have the most current revisions to construction projects.
Function as a contact point for the client concerning all surveying aspects of his/her project with RAI. Coordinate and maintain good communications among the client, all RAI departments, the Senior Surveyor and applicable governing bodies. Remain current on all aspects of the job to be able to answer job-related client questions.
Meet assigned project time schedules. Inform senior team members of any events that are, or might, affect meeting an assigned time schedule.
React to change productively and handle other essential tasks as assigned.
A Technician does CADD drafting and elementary survey computations. Assist in upholding the firm's standards for technical practice and facilitating the team's conformance to all of the firm's policies, practices and philosophies.
Experience & Education
Work experience (including length of time), training, and/or level of education necessary for this position.
High school diploma or equivalent preferred. At least 3 years of Survey drafting experience . Strong working knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D is a plus.
Required technical skills (typing, computer skills, etc.):
Requires working knowledge of CAD surveying/design software so that proficiency in using the current RAI design software may be achieved in a short time. Knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Project and Outlook software a plus.
Special training and/or abilities necessary to qualify for this position.
Requires excellent communication and organizational skills. Good time management and interpersonal skills a must. Familiarity with surveying and/or civil engineering terminology a plus.
Working Conditions & Physical Demands:
Work hours are normally early morning to late afternoon (7:00 AM to 5:00 PM, for example) but may vary based on weather, client needs, company priorities and workload or other considerations. Position is mostly office work with occasional visits to job sites to observe work and conditions. This may involve walking through difficult terrain in all types of weather. Some Saturday work and/or overnight travel may be required. Firm maintains a smoke-free office environment.

At least 3 years of Survey CADD experience.This position requires knowledge of the use computers and surveying equipment. Knowledge of basic math (addition/subtraction, multiplication and division) and the types of measurements related to land surveying including linear, angular, elevations and unit systems conversion.
Requires good verbal and written communication skills. Must be familiar with land surveying and terminology.
