Coastal Carolina University is currently accepting applications for the following position: Associate Director of News and Public Affairs in the Office of University Communication.
This position is responsible for managing University media relations and for creating and placing messages of strategic value to the University in targeted media channels. The associate director will work closely with the associate vice president of University Communication in the execution of a communications strategy to shape and manage the University's image and identity; promote the University's goals and strategic priorities; and position the University brand locally, regionally and nationally. The associate director will manage proactive and responsive media and public relations. If required, the associate director will support the associate vice president as campus spokesperson. The associate director will execute and manage external communications such as news releases, interviews and announcements, and will oversee internal communications. The associate director will be assisted in this role by an internal communications coordinator/writer and a digital journalist(s). The associate director works closely with the University Communication team in managing communications and media-related issues, preparing for crisis events and managing crisis communication strategies.
Requirements: A bachelor's degree in Communication, English, Journalism or a related field is required. At least two (2) years of related experiences are required. Experience in managing, developing and implementing internal and external communications through all mediums including video, print, electronic, online and social media required. Experience in crisis and issues management required. Experience working with national and or state news media in a media relations management capacity preferred. Established national and/or state news media contacts a plus. Excellent writer, editor experienced in executing creative public relations preferred. A successful candidate should also possess excellent and proven writing and editing skills; extensive knowledge and expertise of communication strategies that incorporate sound journalistic principles and critical thinking skills for the development and dissemination of information in traditional and emerging technological forms (print, web, video, social media, etc.); considerable ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the media, general public and the campus community; the ability to translate technical information into verbiage that is understood by the general public; the ability to perform under pressure and meet tight deadlines; the ability to serve as an effective team member in the department and in the university community; strong presentation skills; grounded in issues, trends and complexities of higher education.
