Job Summary/Basic Function:
PRIMARY DAILY RESPONSIBILITY: Oversee the Admissions Data Center which provides all admission services throughout Lamar University, Lamar Institute of Technology, TIEP and other Lamar University Partnerships

The Director of Admissions Operations oversees all activities of the Admissions Data Center. The position is responsible for the coordination, planning, development, and implementation of comprehensive admissions policies and procedures for domestic and international programs and processes at the undergraduate and graduate level. In addition, the director oversees admissions for the Lamar Institute of Technology, TIEP at Lamar, and other Lamar University partnerships. This position develops and implements business plans for the integrated admission processing area, collaborates with information technology professionals to enhance and streamline admissions processing systems, and works closely with university administrators and other stakeholders to understand their needs and provide appropriate services. The director is required to perform ongoing assessments and improvements in accordance with best practices and state requirements. The director serves on various administrative committees, represents the university on state committees, and participates in local, state, and national organizations.

  • Supervise a staff of approximately 20 employees
  • Interpret and apply laws and regulations from the Texas Higher Education Code, the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, Lamar University policies, and other state or federal laws pertaining to admissions
  • Monitor collection of admission data
  • Prepare and distribute reports as mandated by federal, state, and university requirements
  • Protect the confidentiality of all student records
  • Maintain practices and services that enhance and encourage the transfer of courses
  • Represent the university through participation in local, state, regional, and national professional admission activities
  • Work with other university services offices (such as financial aid, new student orientation, advising) and academic units to ensure smooth student transition from applicant to enrolled student
  • Develop and implement structured electronic and paper admission systems
  • Develop and maintain standards and procedures for admissions
  • Prepare written communications for distribution through electronic and paper systems
  • Work closely with IT to maintain and exceed industry standard services
  • Work closely with other offices and stakeholders to provide a seamless admission and enrollment process

    Minimum Qualifications:
    • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred
    • Minimum 5 years of progressive direct job-related experience
    • Experience in recruitment, admissions, or enrollment management required
    • A strong background in student enterprise systems (Banner) and CRM software desired
    • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekend and evening hours
    • Demonstrated experience in hiring and building a successful team
    • Proven experience in developing systems and strategies and making data-driven decisions
