Job Summary/Basic Function:
  • Interact with faculty, students and staff
  • Work with library periodicals and reserve materials
  • Keep newspapers in order and pull for discard
  • Interact with faculty in placing and removing materials from reserve
  • Assist patrons with periodical and reserve requests
  • Assure the proper maintenance of all Periodicals/Reserve Department equipment, including copiers and microform reader/printers
  • Assist patrons with the copiers and microform reader/printers
  • File microfilm
  • Perform data entry and correction on the library automated system
  • Shelve new periodicals in Library of Congress classification order
  • Assist in the training and supervision of student workers
  • Open the Periodicals/Reserves Department in absence of supervisor
  • Input and update online records, including bibliographic and patron records on automated systems following a standard format; search bibliographic records or other data on automated system
  • Develop and maintain a positive customer service orientation and environment
  • Serve as a backup when staff or students are absent
  • Must be able to work nights and weekends

    Minimum Qualifications:
    Education and Experience:
    • A high school diploma or equivalent required; two-year associate’s degree preferred
    • A minimum of two years of library experience required, or equivalent combination of experience and education from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities have been achieved

    • Standard library and office practices and procedures
    • Understand, interpret and carry out detailed oral and written instructions
    • Enter alphanumeric data accurately using a PC or terminal keyboard
    • Communicate with faculty, students, staff and the general public

    • Library principles and practices
    • Use of library resources
    • Use of automated databases
    • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite
    • Ability to work on special projects
    • Ability to interact effectively with diverse populations
