$52,000 - $56,000; Salary commensurate with experience

General Summary of Position:
The TURI Cleaning Laboratory Specialist assists the Director of Laboratory Services in carrying out the work of the Toxics Use Reduction Institute's (TURI) Cleaning Laboratory by focusing primarily on assisting Massachusetts companies with testing in the lab and providing on-site assistance with implementation of process changes.
The Toxics Use Reduction Institute (TURI) is a research and education institute located at UMass Lowell, whose main responsibility is to implement the Commonwealth's Toxics Use Reduction Act. The Institute assists Massachusetts companies, environmental health and safety professionals, and communities in their toxics use reduction efforts through education and training, research, grants, laboratory services, information and technical support for companies and communities.

This position is contingent upon funding.

Duties include:

1. Provide industrial cleaning assistance to Massachusetts businesses. Work with companies and other lab staff and students to identify, test, and assist with the implementation of safer, effective alternative cleaning chemistries and processes.

2. Document work and project results.

3. Support laboratory operations and maintenance.

4.Collaborate with other TURI programs to design and implement toxics use reduction activities.

5. Provide for a safe Lab environment.

Minimum Qualifications (Required):
-Bachelor's degree in engineering, chemistry or related discipline
-Minimum 5 years work experience; including 2 year of directly applicable experience working in industry or in a laboratory setting
-Strong laboratory experience, including designing and performing experiments and preparing written reports
-Strong written and oral communication skills
-Strong analytical skills and hands-on knowledge of analytical methods for surface analysis
-The ability to work effectively with diverse groups
-Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively on project teams

Other Considerations:
-Experience with surface cleaning issues
-Knowledge of environmental, health and safety issues, particularly as they pertain to industrial technologies, cleaning processes and chemistries preferred.
-Master's degree in engineering, chemistry or related discipline
-Experience performing literature reviews and data analyses
-Familiarity with pollution prevention and toxics use reduction
-Experience providing technical assistance to businesses
