The Department of Media Arts, Sciences, and Studies in the Roy H. Park School of Communications at Ithaca College is currently accepting applications for a full-time faculty member with a focus on cinema/video production to begin August 16, 2017. Position is a non-tenure eligible, renewable appointment, Assistant Professor level.
We are looking specifically for a mix of the following competencies in our new colleague:
• Expertise with digital cinema/video production and workflow.
• Experience with analog 16mm image acquisition and post-production
• Experience with editing software, including Avid Media Composer and Adobe Premiere Pro.
• Demonstrated expertise in two or more of the following areas: producing and management, visual editing, cinematography, production design, screenwriting, lighting, animation, and/or sound design.
Primary responsibilities will focus on teaching courses within the curriculum at the introductory and intermediate level in hands-on cinema/video production classes. The ideal candidate will be equipped to create an environment centered on active student learning and will maintain a high level of teaching effectiveness. Participation in advising of students and service to the department, school, and college is also required.
Applicants with a track record of professional creative production in a key position, such as director or director of photography, in the fields of television, feature filmmaking, or emerging media will be given particular priority. Ideal candidates will also have a record of engagement with industry and professional organizations, and can therefore serve as a mentor and professional liaison for students. The successful candidate will also demonstrate an ability to teach in ways that value the varied learning needs and interests of a culturally diverse student population, and that reflect a commitment to encouraging the success of all students. We also seek candidates who have relevant experience and/or a record of professional engagement with groups and communities underrepresented in the academy. Candidates from underrepresented groups whose exclusion from the academy has been longstanding are strongly encouraged to apply.
An M.F.A. in the area of media production or a Master's degree plus significant professional experience in cinema/video production is required. We prefer candidates who have a record of successful college teaching and who share our commitment to professional preparation within the context of an interdisciplinary and immersive liberal arts education.
