Primary Function of Organization Unit: The NC State Dance Program gives students opportunities to study dance through direct experience in choreographic and performance processes. At the center of the Dance Program are its two student companies: the NCSU Dance Company and the Panoramic Dance Project. Through these student companies, academic courses and other student programming, the Dance Program provides the study of choreography, technique classes, professional projects, and formal and informal performances.
Essential Job Duties: The NC State Dance Program invites applications for a part-time lecturer in Dance to begin Fall 2017. The Dance Lecturer will serve as the administrative and artistic director of the Panoramic Dance Project (PDP). The primary responsibilities of this role will include teaching, choreographing, mentoring student choreographers and serving as the rehearsal director of all Panoramic Dance Project productions. The teaching load for this position is 3-4 courses per year in addition to teaching classes in the Master Class Series and Dance tracks for the Arts Village; may teach other dance courses. Additional responsibilities include management of the PDP budget, lead adjudication/feedback sessions for student choreographers, oversee the hiring process of guest teachers and choreographers and coordinate partnerships/ community workshops, classes and performances. The Dance Lecturer may serve as a choreographer for the NCSU Dance Company. The successful candidate will assist in auditions, teach technique classes, assist in technical rehearsals and complete a formal assessment of one Dance Program outcome. The Dance Lecturer will have other duties as assigned in support of the Dance Program's mission.
Minimum Education/Experience: Master of Arts or Master of Fine Arts Degree
Department Required Skills: Experience in concert production; excellence in teaching, choreography and performance; experience with initiating and facilitating community partnerships; strong organizational and interpersonal skills
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: Prior experience teaching all levels of modern dance technique, repertory and composition.
