Position Information: This position serves as the junior HR Generalist supporting the Business & Administrative Services (BAS) organization. Reporting to the BAS HR Business Partner, the Generalist is responsible for a variety of human resources duties with a focus on data gathering and analysis, workforce reporting, and leave administration in support of a high performance culture. The Generalist gathers, distributes and also analyzes human resources data for BAS leadership, using various software programs, in support of human resources initiatives throughout the organization. This position will also be responsible for consulting with management on the administration of leave plans, and counseling staff on appropriate benefits with regards to leaves, partnering and consulting with centralized units like central Human Resources, BAS Departments, Shared Services and other centralized university units.
Minimum Requirements: Acquiring knowledge of organizational policies and procedures and knowledge of functional area.
Demonstrated ability to handle difficult or volatile situations/individuals effectively.
Proficient in communicating clearly and effectively verbally and in writing and in integrating information in the completion of assignments.
Has analytical skills to conduct analysis and develop recommendations, demonstrates organizational skills and problem-solving skills.
Possesses basic knowledge of human resources policies and programs and organizational policies and procedures.
Ability to organize work, establish priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, changing environment.
Preferred Qualifications: Has working knowledge of other areas of HR.
Knowledge of the university's Human Resources Management System (HRMS) and other related business software programs and systems.
Working knowledge of federal and California state laws related to medical, personal and other leaves.
Working knowledge of leave counseling and administration.
Expert knowledge of Microsoft Excel and experience with manipulation of data.
