This position provides clinical and administrative direction for all medical services at the New York University Student Health Center (SHC), which serves more than 50,000 students in New York City and at two portal campuses and fifteen “study away” sites abroad. SHC is an acknowledged leader in delivering innovative student-centered services including medical, counseling, wellness, and insurance programs. Effective delivery of these programs depends, in turn, on designing and executing strong, evidence-based strategies, programs, policies, and procedures that respond to multiple regulatory and accreditation criteria and also engage students in their own care. The Medical Director is responsible for 112 people and an $18 million budget in departments that include Primary Care, Specialty Care, and Women's Health; Quality Management; Public Health and Initiatives; Health Informatics; Nursing; and Ancillary and Clinical Support, including Pharmacy, Physical Therapy, Optometry, Radiology, and Administrative Support. He or she reports to the Associate Vice President of Student Health and is a member of the SHC Executive Management team. Leadership of SHC quality initiatives in general and AAAHC accreditation activities in particular are visible, important elements of this position.Required Education:
MD or DO from AAMC member medical school. Board Certified by American Board of Internal Medicine or American Board of Family Medicine. Has or is eligible to obtain 1. “Physician” license from New York State Education Department, Office of the Professions and 2. U.S. Department of Justice Drug Enforcement Administration registration before appointment.

Preferred Education:
Same as above with fellowship training in general, medicine, family medicine, or primary care

Required Experience:
7-10 years of progressively responsible management experience in a multi-specialty ambulatory health care organization.

Preferred Experience:
Leadership experience in a large, sophisticated college or university health center is ideal. Clinical experience with the kind of adolescent and young adult populations found at NYU is strongly preferred. Exposure to a variety of relevant disciplines especially including urgent care, preventive medicine, global health, and public health is highly desirable.

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Excellent interpersonal, analytical, problem-solving, and written and verbal communication skills. Ability to interact effectively with diverse individuals and constituencies at all levels of the SHC and University organizations. Knowledge of the goals and objectives of ambulatory care and its relationship to both primary prevention and tertiary/quaternary interventions.

Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Advanced Life Support Certification and advanced certification in clinical areas of interest are desirable.
