The Department of Mechanical Engineering at West Virginia University Institute of Technology (WVU Tech) seeks to hire a full-time, nine-month, tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor in thermal fluids to begin fall 2017.  We are seeking candidates with a strong interest in teaching undergraduate students and establishing a record of recognized research.

 

The successful applicant will be expected to teach basic and applied courses in thermal fluids and be capable of and interested in teaching courses in mechanical design and basic mechanics as well as associated laboratory courses. Development of a strong record of scholarship will also be expected. Other auxiliary duties relating to the operation of a mechanical engineering program such as advising students and performing ABET-related activities will be expected.

Qualifications

 

For applicants at the rank of Assistant Professor:
 

  • Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline. Candidates who are within a year of completing the requirements for a Ph.D. will also be considered, but completion of the degree must occur before the effective date of the tenure-track appointment.
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering
  • Ability to demonstrate good communication and interpersonal skills, and responsiveness to student needs
  • Ability to show potential for excellence in teaching and developing innovative mechanical engineering courses
  • Ability to show potential for developing a strong record of scholarship

For applicants for the rank of Associate Professor:
 

  • Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
  • A minimum of five years successful experience as a faculty member in a mechanical engineering program or a closely related discipline with a clear focus in thermal fluids.
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering
  • Ability to demonstrate good communication and interpersonal skills, and responsiveness to student needs
  • Ability to show potential for excellence in teaching and developing innovative mechanical engineering courses
  • Ability to show potential for developing a strong record of scholarship
