University of Maryland University College seeks an Assistant Director, Annual Giving. Reporting to the Director of Institutional Advancement Communications, the Assistant Director, Annual Giving is responsible for assisting in the development and execution of the Annual Giving Program at the University of Maryland University College (UMUC). This position will ensure UMUC is a leader among its peers in the area of alumni participation, consistency of giving, and average gift size.

 

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

 

With the assistance of the Director of Institutional Advancement Communications, oversees the production and development of strategic direct marketing through multi-channel activities to the alumni and friends constituency at UMUC; these activities may include but not limited to  direct mail campaigns, phone-a-thons, social media campaigns, affinity giving campaigns, alumni campaigns, and the Faculty /Staff Campaign.

In consultation with the Director, develops specific annual goals (financial, participation, new donors, and retention) for Annual Giving.  Measurement of success will be based on these goals.

Keeps abreast of industry trends and successful approaches in Annual Giving.

In consultation with the Director, consistently tracks and reviews results to identify growth opportunities and develop new, creative campaigns and activities to improve results.

Solicits annual gifts from alumni and friends and orchestrates the personal solicitation of annual gifts by appropriate volunteers, faculty, and staff.

Works closely with the Director in assisting to identifies, recruits, and trains volunteers as needed to support and enhance Annual Giving activities.

Develops business relationships and serves as primary institutional liaison with all contractors and vendors involved with Annual Giving Programming.

Works closely with Major Gift Officers to identify potential major gift donors.

Collaborates with Alumni Relations and Career Services, and other University initiatives to increase alumni engagement and leverage Alumni Relations activities to drive annual giving; including the implementation of a robust, comprehensive communications plan for alumni and friends.

Supports Institutional Advancement events including day-of-event activities and participation as needed.

Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

 

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

 

Bachelor's degree  from an accredited institution off higher learning and a minimum  of two years of successful experience  in fundraising,  preferably  in annual  giving with  emphasis   on  direct  mail,  phone-a-thon,  and personal   solicitation.  Additionally,  successful candidates will  have demonstrated ability to handle complex tasks, formulate  plans, carry out objectives, and interact  effectively with individuals; proficiency in written communication, creativity,  and well developed  organizational skills; excellent interpersonal skills; and ability to work independently and effectively with a wide variety of internal  and external  constituencies.  Travel is required. The appropriate equivalent of sales, marketing, or business development experience in the for-profit sector may be considered in lieu of fund raising experience.
