Position Summary: The Department of Computer Science is engaged in a major initiative to increase the racial and gender diversity in our undergraduate and graduate programs. This new position of Diversity Coordinator will play a critical role in helping our Department build and sustain our diversity and outreach efforts. Specifically, working closely with our Associate Chair for Diversity, faculty committees, and staff, this position will help organize special events and activities supporting diversity and inclusiveness; support the redesign of our curricula to retain underrepresented groups in our degree programs; develop marketing and outreach materials and activities to attract underrepresented groups to our department, including materials and activities for middle-school and high-school students as well as college freshmen; and co-coordinating fundraising campaigns and grant proposals to generate resources and funding for our diversity efforts. This position will also be charged with learning about and staying current on diversity best practices and sharing these with department leadership to ensure we are developing and implementing the most effective and efficient strategies. The Department of Computer Science is one of 16 science departments and curricula's in the College of Arts and Sciences. It is a major research and teaching department with 29 tenured/tenure track faculty, 9 research faculty, 28 adjunct faculty and 5 visiting scholar and postdoc positions. Faculty members are engaged in a broad range of teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, as well as cutting edge research and public service activities. The research and teaching labs in Sitterson Hall and the Brooks Computer Science Building support many hundreds of undergraduate students (computer science majors, computer science minors and students from various other disciplines taking computer science courses), graduate students (MS and PhD), and postdoctoral fellows. Teaching and research activities are currently assisted by approximately 170 graduate students and several full-time researchers.

Education Requirements: Qualified applicants will have a minimum of a Bachelor's degree and three or more years of relevant work experience; Master's degree preferred.

Qualification and Experience: The candidate for this position must have significant experience in the following key areas: - Engaging and supporting students in a higher education environment - Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact with current and prospective students from diverse backgrounds and with varying experiences - Partnering skills and the ability to build relationships with faculty, staff, and other units on campus (e.g., admissions) - Project management experience to move projects from a general idea to a specific set of goals/objectives - Experience implementing projects from start to finish and developing metrics to assess project completion and success - Ability to think creatively and apply this creativity to various activities, such as outreach activities, marketing materials, and program and event design/development - Ability to identify and develop new funding opportunities for our diversity and outreach efforts, including collaborating on grant proposals and donor appeal materials This position will work closely with and receive strategic guidance from our Associate Chair for Diversity, and report to our Associate Chair for Business Affairs for administrative purposes. This position will work in a new unit, but will work closely with our external relations team to develop and execute programs and events, marketing/outreach materials, and fundraising campaigns.
