Chair, Department of Surgery
West Virginia University School of Medicine in Morgantown is recruiting a Chair for the Department of Surgery. We seek an accomplished academic surgeon with the skills and experience to lead a growing and diverse department of 40 faculty members and a residency training program.
WVU Medicine supports the School and provides healthcare through a multispecialty practice plan and our 531-bed campus hospitals. It includes Ruby Memorial Hospital with a Level One Trauma Center, WVU Children’s Hospital, and regional stroke center, the Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center and Chestnut Ridge Center behavioral health services. WVU is a comprehensive, land-grant institution with approximately 22,500 undergraduates plus 6,600 graduate and professional students. The HSC includes the Schools of Medicine, Pharmacy, Dentistry, Nursing, and Public Health.
Morgantown is within easy traveling distance of Washington, D.C., to the east, Pittsburgh, Pa., to the north, and Cleveland and Columbus, Ohio, to the northwest. The city is rated as one of the best small towns in the U.S., with affordable housing, excellent schools, a picturesque countryside and many outdoor activities. It also boasts a thriving economy which prompted Peter Alexander of NBC News to recently state that Morgantown is “an oasis of opportunity” and is full of “can-do Mountaineer spirit.”
Requirements: Professor level rank with demonstrated educational, administrative, and clinical skills. Scholarly activity / research activity is expected. Responsibilities will include clinical operations, strategic planning, quality assurance, continued research and educational program growth, faculty development, and oversight of the education of medical students, residents, and fellows.
