The Department of Chemistry at the University of Virginia invites candidates, excited for the opportunity to work in a dynamic and collaborative research environment, to apply for a Research Scientist position. The incumbent will perform research for the further development of front-end electron transfer dissociation mass spectrometry instrumentation as well as for development of instrument control software to enable efficient use of front-end electron transfer dissociation. The incumbent will develop methods for the application of electron transfer dissociation to the challenges associated with de novo sequence analysis of intact proteins. The incumbent will also be responsible for the development of reagents and methods that facilitate charge enhancement of peptides and proteins in the gas phase.
Completion of the Ph.D. degree in Chemistry or a related discipline is required. Candidates must have effective oral and written communication skills, extensive programming skills, detailed understanding of instrument control language for orbitrap instrumentation, and at least five years of experience working with (a) electron transfer dissociation, high resolution mass spectrometry, (b) synthetic organic chemistry and (c) approaches for de novo sequence analysis of proteins and class I MHC peptides.
