The University of Virginia Police Department is looking to fill the position of Security Corporal to provide personal, equipment, and property security in assigned areas across Grounds and the Hospital. Duties include unlocking and checking buildings and observing and reporting suspicious activity to appropriate parties. The Security Corporal is also responsible for supervising employees in the absence of the Security Sergeant. These are non-sworn civilian positions with no arrest powers.
Incumbents in this position must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time, have a positive driving record with the ability to drive security vehicles and be able to work day, evening and night shifts.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Working knowledge of security checks of buildings around grounds and the hospital
Ability to apply appropriate safety principles
Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time
Ability to supervise and train employees as needed
Ability to understand and follow specific oral and written instructions and procedures
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
Ability to react appropriately in routine and emergency situations
Ability to use equipment required in the conduct of duty
Ability to detect problems and report information to appropriate personnel
Ability to understand and follow safety procedures
Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports
Ability to drive security vehicles
