Summary of Duties:
The Clean Plant Center Northwest (CPCNW) at WSU Prosser, is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate to perform diagnostic and survey testing, data analysis, and applied research into new and existing plant viruses in fruit tree, grape, and hop crops. Specific duties include: Sample preparation, nucleic acid extraction, and molecular testing of plant samples for plant viruses and other systemic pathogens. Processing and interpretation of next-generation sequencing data. Testing and improvement of existing diagnostics, development of new diagnostic protocols.

Required Qualifications:
Ph.D. in Plant Pathology or related discipline.

Experience in design and use of molecular diagnostic techniques, including PCR, real-time PCR, isothermal amplification, ELISA, and next generation sequencing (NGS).

Experience in bioinformatics and interpretation of NGS data.

Ability to work independently within the lab, learn and develop new techniques, and problem-solve.

Ability to communicate with growers and industry representatives.

Possess a valid US drivers’ license (or be able to obtain within 3 months of employment) and have ability to travel.
