Clinical Fellow, Deportation Defense Clinic, Maurice A. Deane School of Law at Hofstra University
The Maurice A. Deane School of Law at Hofstra University, located in Hempstead, NY, is seeking to hire a Clinical Fellow for its newly created Deportation Defense Clinic.
The Deportation Defense Clinic (“DDC”) will work to protect those immigrants on Long Island who are particularly vulnerable to the consequences of increased deportation enforcement, and will conduct that work in a number of ways. The Clinic Fellow will work with the DDC’s Attorney-in-Charge and with law students in the representation of individuals at high risk of deportation, such as those with removal orders or those losing status due to new federal policies. The DDC will also collaborate with existing community organizations and networks on non-litigation community lawyering projects in support of Long Island's immigrant communities. These projects will aim to tackle the systemic issues often impossible to address through individual-client litigation. The Clinic Fellow will work under the Attorney-in-Charge in client selection, client representation, community advocacy, and supervision and mentoring of law students.
The Hofstra Law Clinic, where the DDC will be housed, was established in 1973 and is an integral part of the Law School. The Law School has several additional clinical offerings, including three that also work with immigrant populations: Asylum, Immigration, and Youth Advocacy.
The Law School seeks an applicant who has a demonstrated commitment to immigration law, one to two years’ experience in the field as well as a J.D. degree. Fluency in Spanish is highly desirable. Additional foreign language proficiency is also beneficial.
For consideration, please submit a letter of interest, resume or C.V., law school transcript and a list of references to:
