Structural Biologist: The Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Genetics at the University of Virginia invites applicants to apply for the position of Research Associate. Duties include: design and performance of experiments exploring protein and nucleic acid structure. Experiments require a working knowledge of techniques commonly used in determination of molecular structure of proteins or nucleic acids.
The selected candidate will have additional responsibilities of meeting weekly with the Principal Investigator to discuss experimental results, conducting literature searches, and presenting results in weekly lab meetings and at conferences as well as in interdepartmental seminars.
The candidate must work independently and ethically, document all research data appropriately, assist graduate students in the lab, apply for independent funding where applicable, and publish data in qualified journals. The completion of a Ph.D. and/or M.D. degree in Biochemistry or a related field is required by the appointment start date. A background or familiarity with real-time PCR is preferred.
