The University of Virginia Department of Surgery, in partnership with The Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters (CHKD) in Norfolk, Virginia, is seeking applications for a pediatric cardiac surgeon with two or more years post-fellowship experience. The individual in this position will be located in Norfolk, VA to support the pediatric cardiac surgery program at CHKD with on-going collaboration at the University of Virginia Children's Hospital in Charlottesville, Virginia.
Interested individuals must be an MD, board certified in cardiothoracic surgery, and board eligible/certified in congenital cardiac surgery, with experience in extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). Responsibilities include all aspects of clinical care for the pediatric cardiac surgical patient population including ECMO. This position is tenure-ineligible at the rank of lecturer.
The Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters is a full-service, freestanding children's hospital and the heart of a comprehensive pediatric health system with more than 40 locations throughout coastal Virginia and Northeastern North Carolina. CHKD offers care in more than 30 pediatric sub-specialties, including cardiology and cardiac anesthesiology. Surgeons perform more than 13,000 procedures a year the hospital's pediatric surgical facilities. The hospital is home to a 25-bed PICU and 62-bed bed level IV NICU and operates an experienced neonatal emergency transport service.
The coastal region of Virginia stretches from the resort area of Virginia Beach north to historic Williamsburg and includes the surrounding cities of Chesapeake and Norfolk. The hospital also serves Virginia's Eastern Shore and northeastern North Carolina, which includes the barrier islands of the Outer Banks. The area offers a temperate climate, year-round outdoor activities and a vibrant arts and cultural community.
