Position Information: We are looking for a high-level analyst who is passionate about using data to transform higher education. Public higher education in the State of California is at a crossroads. The number of qualified students wishing to enroll at the University of California is fast outpacing public funding. To fulfill the University of California's mission to provide quality, affordable, and accessible higher education to all qualified California students will require a fundamental transformation of the University's operating model in the next decade. As part of the campus data team, the Institutional Research Analyst (IR Analyst) will play a critical role in answering the tough questions that UCR is tackling in its pursuit to be the model 21st century university. As part of the Institutional Research (IR) team, the successful candidate will have the creativity, resourcefulness, technical skills and the statistical know-how to dive into the data and enable leadership to make data-driven decisions on how to align our resources to the outcomes that matter most - student success and the creation of knowledge. The IR Analyst will have a diverse set of responsibilities, ranging from mastering the structure of campus information systems to extract relevant data, to writing articles for general campus consumption that share methodologies and key findings of the office's research. The successful candidate must be highly independent and be able to handle research projects from end to end, including design, execution, and communication. Common projects will include ad hoc statistical reports that detail enrollments, admissions, personnel, financial aid, graduation rates, degree completions, student-to-faculty ratios, and other important information; developing and automating recurring reports using Stata; predictive analytics related to retention and graduation; creating Excel reports that summarize research for broader dissemination; standard hypothesis testing using basic and advanced statistical methods; and exploratory modeling using a variety of techniques. In addition to these duties, there are some obligatory external reporting requirements such as rankings, federal reporting, maintenance of our website, and fulfillment of UC Office of the President (UCOP) requests. We are most of all looking for someone that is innovative and never satisfied with the status quo. The IR Analyst should possess a high degree of intellectual curiosity, balanced with an insatiable desire to get stuff done. Demonstrated experience working with cross-functional teams to deliver exceptional work is a huge bonus.

Minimum Requirements: Requires experience in conducting and interpreting multivariate analyses including such analysis techniques as logistic regression, ANOVA, multivariate regression, quasi-experimental designs, clustering techniques and similar models.
Requires programming experience in a major statistical package such as Stata, SAS, SPSS, or R. Must be willing to learn Stata if not already proficient.
Requires thorough knowledge in data collection and analysis techniques; statistics or social science research techniques; knowledge of organization-specific computer application programs (for example, query tools and relational databases); knowledge of organizational principles and procedures involved in handling sensitive data (for example, Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, or FERPA).
Requires working with internal and external constituents to identify and clarify data requests, select appropriate data, analysis techniques, and deliverables within given timelines.
Able to provide good judgment and decision-making, problem solving.
Requires knowledge of principles and procedures involved in handling sensitive data including survey responses and personally identifiable information.
Requires ability to present complex findings and recommendations in a clear concise manner both in writing and verbally.
Requires active listening, critical thinking, good interpersonal skills and ability to multi-task.
