The Curry School of Education at the University of Virginia (UVA) is seeking applicants to provide leadership for a major new university initiative in the area of Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). The successful candidate will join the faculty of the Curry School of Education and have primary affiliation with either the Clinical and School Psychology program or the Special Education program. UVA has committed resources for pan-university hiring to further develop and enhance the university's research and clinical presence regarding ASD. The successful candidate will coordinate the emerging emphasis in ASD, working with Developmental Pediatrics, Psychology, and other university partners to position UVA as a center of excellence in ASD research, clinical services, and personnel preparation. The selected candidate will also have access to the Curry School of Education Sheila C. Johnson Center for Human Services, which provides integrated clinical services for individuals of all ages and spans a broad range of clinical specialties, including ASD.
A doctorate in School or Clinical Child Psychology, Special Education, or a related field emphasizing children and youth is required. One or more identified lines of research relevant to schools, a record of publication in refereed journals and a record of extramural funding are required as is an established line of sponsored research focused on autism/Autism Spectrum Disorders is required. Teaching experience in a higher education setting is required. Experience teaching courses related to the training of doctoral level special education and/-or psychology students is strongly preferred. Knowledge of and experience in issues related to the study of autism/Autism Spectrum Disorders, which may include psychoeducational assessment and/or the delivery of school-based prevention or intervention programming is required. Professional experience in PK-12 schools is strongly preferred. Experience in psychoeducational assessment and/or the delivery of school-based prevention or intervention programming is strongly preferred. Professional licensure relevant to field is preferred. Experience collaborating with community partners and an interest in leveraging local and regional partnerships, such as the Virginia Institute of Autism and local school divisions and health providers is strongly preferred. Experience with trans-disciplinary and multi-site science projects is strongly preferred. Finally, a strong commitment to professional service, leadership and equity is required as is an explicit commitment to diversity and of advancing understanding and outcomes for underrepresented groups is required.
