About The Unit:

Unit Job Summary: Under direct supervision, assists in supporting the IT infrastructure within the institution, including the physical network (e.g., WAN/LAN, switches, routers, cabling). Performs routine IT activities to configure, maintain, install and connect network applications and hardware. Provides technical assistance in managing the institution's network. Installs, supports, and maintains local (LAN) and/or wide area networks (WAN). Performs analysis of software, hardware, and transmission facilities using various diagnostic tools in support of efficient network operations. Monitors data traffic and controls network resource performance to ensure high-quality transmission. Tests and analyzes network facilities including network control software, routers, switches, lines, modems, adapters, and servers. Installs new workstations and other devices, removes individuals from the list of authorized users, archives files, oversees password protection, and takes other security measures. THIS POSITION IS A TERM ROLE ENDING SEPTEMBER 30, 2018.

Unit Education: Associate degree or equivalent work experience required. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field OR equivalent work experience preferred.

Unit Experience: Minimum one year of experience working in a network support or systems administration environment required. LAN/WAN support experience preferred.

Unit Job Function Competencies: Basic knowledge of system monitoring and resource management required. Basic knowledge of network administration issues in a large and complex client campus environment required. Familiarity with integration and management issues in a heterogeneous computing environment consisting of Windows (NT, 2000, XP, Vista), Unix (Linux), and MAC OS/X required. Basic knowledge of current software protocols and Internet standards, including: TCP/IP, FTP, SMTP and VPN required. Deductive and investigative skills to identify and diagnose complex, non-intuitive technical problems required. Excellent interpersonal communication skills required. Integrity and credibility to work with sensitive data required.
