The University of Colorado School of Medicine, Department of Pediatrics, Section of Neonatology, has an opening for a full-time Professional Research Assistant at the Perinatal Research Center on the Anschutz Medical Campus. The Perinatal Research Center provides multi-disciplinary, basic and clinical research in the areas of Perinatal biology and medicine, functioning as an auxiliary service center, providing laboratory and other research-related facilities and services to Principal Investigators with the Section of Neonatology and also to other Principal Investigators in other departments. The successful candidate will actively participate in research conducted at the Perinatal Research Center. Research responsibilities will primarily include molecular and cellular experiments and some work with animals (sheep). The position will be required to spend a specified amount of time on weekends and evenings as necessary.

Nature of Work:

The University of Colorado Denver Anschutz Medical Campus is seeking applications for a PRA. The Department of Pediatrics, Section of Neonatology has an opening for a full-time Professional Research Assistant at the Perinatal Research Center on the Anschutz Medical Campus. The Perinatal Research Center provides multi-disciplinary, basic and clinical research in the areas of Perinatal biology and medicine, functioning as an auxiliary service center, providing laboratory and other research-related facilities and services to Principal Investigators with the Section of Neonatology and also to other Principal Investigators in other departments. This position is located in the Perinatal Research Center on the Anschutz Medical Campus.

Examples of Work Performed:

  • Active laboratory work studying molecular and cellular mechanisms regulating fetal physiology and metabolism.
  • Actively participate in research conducted at the Perinatal Research Center.
  • Research responsibilities including molecular and cellular experiments and some work with animals (sheep).
  • Research experiments may include studies in primary hepatocytes, siRNA gene knockdown, western blotting, real time PCR, biochemical quantification of metabolites, and assays of mitochondria function.



PLEASE NOTE: Candidates will be responsible for travel expenses related to the interview process and any relocation expenses, if applicable.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Animal Sciences or related field, or equivalent experience is required.
  • An understanding of basic physiological principles and molecular and cellular biology techniques is required.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with RNA isolation, real time PCR, western blotting, siRNA, mitochondria respiration, primary cell isolation, cell culture, and data entry/analysis


Condition of Employment:

  • Must successfully pass a drug test through Children's Hospital Colorado.
  • Must be willing and able to pass a national criminal background check.
  • The position will be required to spend a specified amount of time on weekends and evenings as necessary.


Required Competencies: Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to learn new techniques as needed.
  • Must have attention to detail.
  • Must work well in a lab with multiple investigators.


On-job training will be provided to an otherwise well-qualified candidate.

Salary and Benefits:
