The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Azusa Pacific University invites applications for the position of Program Director - Bachelors of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies/Exploring Program.
The Program Director of the Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies (BAIS), a custom-designed major for undergraduate students, provides strategic and tactical leadership for the program, including program implementation and evaluation, student advising, marketing and promotions, and coordination of faculty and academic advisors. In addition, the Program Director coordinates APU's multi-faceted program for undeclared students who are exploring various majors during their first two years.
Under the leadership of the Department Chair, the Program Director will work closely with program faculty, adjunct faculty advisors, and academic and student life staff to develop and administer a vibrant program that aligns with the mission and ethos of Azusa Pacific University (APU) and the student learning goals of the Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies and Exploring programs.
In particular, the program director will:
- Champion the BAIS and Exploring program mission, purpose, and values within the program while working across campus with students, faculty, advisor, and other staff.
- In collaboration with the Chair, build an expanding network of partners on campus to implement the programs, including faculty, staff, and academic advisors.
- Develop, plan, and implement a series of Exploring initiatives, such as a speaker series, retreats, service learning opportunities, and mentoring relationships, to help students discover their identity and calling.
- Serve as coordinating faculty member for the First Year Seminar courses for Exploring students.
- Teach four classes per academic year within the Exploring program and BAIS core.
- Architect, build, equip, and resource a cadre of adjunct faculty academic advisors to work with Exploring students.
- Continually monitor the effectiveness of the BAIS and Exploring programs, making adjustments as necessary to meet the program goals and learning objectives.
- Oversee the marketing of the Exploring and BAIS programs to prospective students and parents, as well as current students.
- Coordinate academic advising for BAIS students, and continually develop and update curriculum major templates.
- Create and maintain high-quality academic catalog, advising, and general program documentation for the BAIS program.
- Represent the BAIS and Exploring programs across campus and peer institutions.
- Supervise administrative and advising staff and facilitate the work of adjunct faculty in the performance of their roles related to the BAIS and Exploring program. (The Department Chair will evaluate teaching faculty and make faculty assignments.)
- Build and maintain effective working relationships with student participants in the program.
- Manage the budget for the program, and participate in fundraising efforts, including a robust grant solicitation schedule.
- Perform other duties as required by the supervisor.
- May be needed to work at alternative teaching sites.
Level: Assistant or Associate Professor (Clinical)
Qualifications: Master's Degree in related area, a track record of successful studying and teaching about Christian vocation, and at least 5 years of curricular or co-curricular program management experience. Candidates must also adhere to Azusa Pacific University's Evangelical Christian tradition. Faculty members are required to sign a "Statement of Faith" (available at http://www.apu.edu/about/believe) and adhere to the policies outlined in the Faculty Handbook.
Experience: Prior experience teaching at the collegiate or university level preferred, experience in the field of vocation preferred.
Workload: 11-month contract. Responsible for teaching 12 units (typically four undergraduate courses) per year. Up to 17 units annually will be provided for program director responsibilities.
