General Statement of Job

To install, maintain, tune, and perform problem determination and resolution of system software and hardware related to critical collegewide applications and systems.

Position Information
Location Service Center Hours 40 hours/week as assigned; Generally Monday - Friday, 8 am - 5 pm Salary Professional 3/122 ($46,383.00 - $66,261.00) FLSA Status Exempt Reports To Director, Associate Vice President, or designee Criminal Background Check Pre-employment criminal background checks are required for all Staff and Faculty positions. Pre-employment urinalyses drug screens are also required for all top candidates considered for positions in ACC's College Police department.

Description of Duties and Tasks

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Responsible for providing a high level of system availability, reliability, and dependability; Server hardware/OS/software installations, upgrades, and maintenance of application servers.
  • Ensures security, reliability, and capacity of servers; performs standard system administration activities including preventative maintenance.
  • Installs and maintains collegewide systems, and troubleshoots to resolve system-related problems; coordinates with relevant system administrators regarding user support and problem resolution.
  • Monitors designated systems and takes corrective action to prevent or minimize system down time.
  • Assists with developing policies, procedures, programs, or scripts as required.
  • Troubleshoots problems, conducts technology research, and coordinates with vendors as required.
  • May train personnel on new systems software and hardware changes.
  • Collaborates on special projects; may track and allocate software licenses.
  • Keeps current with the latest technology; regularly attends technical training in order to maintain technical expertise.

    • Windows and/or AIX/Linux servers administration in a virtualized enterprise environment.
    • Troubleshooting techniques used to resolve system-related problems.

    • Maintaining an established work schedule and providing on-call assistance including some nights and weekends.
    • Effectively using interpersonal and communications skills including tact and diplomacy.
    • Effectively using organizational and planning skills with attention to detail and follow-through.

    Technology Skills

    • Use a variety of spreadsheet, word processing, database, and presentation software.
    • Use query and control languages, program, administer systems and databases, and provide technical support.

    Required Work Experience

    • Two years related work experience.

    Required Education

    • Associate degree. Four years of related work experience may substitute for the degree. Experience used here cannot be used again to meet the experience requirement or for placement purposes.     Physical Requirements

    • Work is performed in a standard office or similar environment.
    • Subject to standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, pushing, and pulling.
    • Occasional lifting of objects up to 10 pounds.
