Duties: Penn's School of Arts and Sciences is world-renowned for their exceptional faculty, innovative research, and top-tier degree programs. Natural Sciences Computing is seeking an Information Technology Support Specialist to provide excellent technological support and creative IT solutions that will further the research and teaching missions of the school. Desktop support is one of the primary responsibilities of the position. It involves installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting faculty and staff computers in a Mac-heavy environment. The successful candidate will also be comfortable configuring a variety of mobile devices, including iOS and Android smartphones, iPads, and other tablets. S/he will assist faculty with classroom technology. The IT Support Specialist will provide first-line assistance for departmental, faculty, and project-based websites. A good working knowledge of PC and Mac hardware will be necessary. A key responsibility of this position is working with faculty and staff to identify creative IT solutions that forward the research, teaching, and administration of the departments. As a member of the School of Arts & Sciences Computing group, the IT Support Specialist will assure that all activities are consistent with institutional standards and will participate in School-wide technology initiatives.

Qualifications: BA/BS or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience supporting macOS and Windows 7 and 10 is required, Linux experience is desirable. Familiarity with basic desktop hardware and maintenance required. Familiarity with popular web browsers and mail applications, basic computer networking concepts, basic Active Directory usage, and anti-virus software required. Experience with encryption desirable. Experience with HTML/CSS and content management systems, especially Drupal and Wordpress, is desirable. Excellent customer service and spoken/written communication skills required; flexible work schedule may be required occasionally. The successful candidate will listen well to the needs of clients, and propose innovative and maintainable methods of accomplishing those goals. S/he is capable of supporting clients with a wide variety of technical abilities and comfort levels from novice to expert. The ideal candidate is comfortable in a busy and highly collaborative environment, and provides clear and frequent communication to both colleagues and clients.
