RESEARCH SPECIALIST A
Duties: Under supervision, perform multiple research experiments investigating the mechanisms by which communication and protein folding occur in the ribosome exit tunnel. Prepare DNA, mRNA, and protein using in vitro transcription and translation, biochemically modify proteins and determine functional properties of the ribosome to understand mechanisms of the translation process and protein folding. Create mutations using site-directed mutagenesis, PCR, mini-preps, DNA/RNA gel electrophoresis, RNA in vitro transcription, and translation. Perform synthesis, sequencing, and amplifications of cDNA, and protein gel electrophoresis. Collect data. Present project at a scientific meeting and help prepare a manuscript for publication. Monitor, maintain, and organize the lab. Order supplies.
Qualifications: A Bachelor's Degree in biology, chemistry or molecular biology, or related field and 0 to 1 year of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required. Experience with protein biochemistry and molecular biology preferred.
