Position Summary: A position is available for a Research Associate (RA) in the UNC Proteomics Core Facility, a University operated recharge core, specializing in advanced proteomics analysis. The RA will be responsible for preparing samples for proteomics analyses, operating and maintaining instruments, and analyzing complex qualitative/quantitative proteomics datasets. Current instrumentation includes: Waters NanoAcquity-Thermo LTQ-Orbitrap Velos, Thermo Easy nLC 1000-QExactive HF and Sciex 5800 MALDI-TOF/TOF. Additionally, the RA will lead method development efforts to expand the core facility's capabilities. The RA will collaborate with investigators, research staff and students to design and perform experiments.
Education Requirements: PhD or MS degree in Biochemistry, Chemistry, Pharmacology, or a related discipline.
Qualification and Experience: The desired applicant will have a minimum of 4 years post-bachelor's degree experience in proteomics and mass spectrometry. The applicant will have hands-on experience with LC-MS instruments such as high-resolution mass spectrometers (Thermo Orbitrap systems), triple quadrupoles, nanoLC systems (Waters nanoAcquity, Thermo Easy nLC), or other similar instruments. The applicant will have experience in preparing different sample types for proteomics analysis, as well as experience in data analysis using software such as Proteome Discoverer, Mascot, Scaffold, MaxQuant, Skyline. The applicant will have experience with quantitative analyses, including TMT, SILAC and label-free approaches. The applicant will have a working knowledge of cell biology and common biochemical techniques. Preference will be given to candidates with statistical and bioinformatics expertise, and/or experience in PTM (phosphorylation, ubiquitination) and protein interaction analyses. Experience with MALDI-TOF and targeted quantitation using multiple reaction monitoring (MRM) is a plus, but not required. Strong problem solving skills, interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently is required.
