This role reports to the Procurement Manager and works with portfolios within designated procurement spend categories (e.g., within Information Technology, Facilities, Professional Services, Maintenance Repair and Operations (MRO), Travel, Scientific and Lab Supplies, etc.). The Category Lead is responsible for independently managing one or more related procurement category areas with the goal of improved customer satisfaction, achievement of greater efficiencies, reduction of risk, and realizing financial cost savings. In support of organizational mission and goals, the incumbent is accountable for effective supplier performance management, customer relationship development, determination of customer needs, supplier diversity, contract creation, contract execution and contract renewals.

Required Education:
Bachelor's Degree.

Preferred Education:

Bachelor's Degree with a focus in Finance, Economics, or Supply Chain.

Required Experience:
5 years of related procurement experience, including experience leading RFP's for procurement, contract negotiation, customer relationship management and supplier relationship management. Experience with eProcurement technologies.

Preferred Experience:
Experience with strategic sourcing and competitive price analysis.

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Demonstrated ability to develop data-driven category analysis including relevant market insight, supplier understanding, and spend analysis. Demonstrated ability to develop deep category-specific expertise, and define and document key stakeholder business requirements. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple spend categories in a defined portfolio, including management of supplier relationships and diverse supplier programs; manage the contract lifecycle including contract renewals and compliance management; develop deep, sustainable customer relationships; and develop category strategies in collaboration with strategic sourcing resources. Proven ability to understand procurement operations, including payables processes. Demonstrated ability to effectively interact in a cross-functional environment with all levels of management. Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills. Advanced level of proficiency in Microsoft Office suite including PowerPoint and Excel.

Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Certified Purchasing Manager (CPM), Certified Professional Purchasing Managers (CPPM) or Certified Purchasing Professional (CPP).
