Business Intelligence / Data Analytics Analyst

Job Description Summary:
The Business Intelligence Analyst / Data Analytics is responsible for assisting in various activities including data gathering, trending, modeling, forecasting, and reporting. This position will be a centerpiece between the business intelligence data warehouse capability and other functional areas of the business. The primary responsibility will be to create new dashboards and visualizations to provide insight into underlying business dynamics. The incumbent will, in concert with the database administrator, develop analytic solutions, analyze industrial-size data sets, clean and filter data, identify patterns and extracting features, and design visualizations in order to support business needs. The successful candidate for this position must be able to: (1) think analytically and logically in solving business problems; (2) know what types of data must be analyzed to find the facts needed to solve these problems; (3) have the quantitative and software skills required for conducting the analysis, interpreting the results, and helping formulate solutions.

Specific Duties:

Conceptualize, design and support the implementation of reports, dashboards, scorecards, ad hoc queries and other decision support mediums utilizing a variety of data warehouse front and back-end tools, e.g. Cognos, Operational Data Store (ODS), Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW), and various performance related packages. The incumbent will own and deliver multiple BI projects, on an ongoing, long-term, and ad-hoc basis. In collaboration with the Senior Director of Enterprise Applications, the Database Administrator and key university stakeholders, leverage advanced functionality (parameters, reporting writing, database and meta-data configuration, APIs, complex calculations, etc.) to create, operationalize, and enhance enterprise and functionally specific reports, dashboards, and scorecards in the enterprise tools and systems. In continued partnership, analyze and translate business requirements to identify impacts, trends, and gaps. Extract, combine, and filter data sets from data warehouse(s) as well as utilizing external data sources by blending, according to internal client specifications to prepare analyses for broad and specific consumption needs. Incorporate mathematical and statistics based approach to identifying key business and customer behaviors through correlation trending and analysis. In collaboration with key university stakeholders, ensure data quality is created, maintained, and enforced. Manage ongoing reporting processes and ensure daily data extracts, refreshes and similar occur in a timely and error-free manner. Make appropriate and meaningful enhancement suggestions and drive the project to fruition.

Minimum Qualifications:

In-depth knowledge of the principles, theories, practices and techniques for managing the activities related to planning, managing and implementing business intelligence systems, reports, dashboards, scorecards, and accompanying analysis and related tools. Project management skills and experience.

3 years - Relevant IT business and work experience, including business intelligence work and related functions.
2 years - Relevant experience in data warehousing, data governance, and data integrity. Excellent, demonstrable written and verbal skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
Significant (3 - 5 years) relevant: data warehouse (ODS and EDW) experience; Banner system knowledge and business intelligence related work in said system; Cognos experience in creating reports, dashboards, ad hoc queries, and scorecards; and SQL query experience. Solid (2 -3 years) relevant project management skills and experience.
