Clark University’s Physical Plant Department seeks to fill the position of Locksmith. Reporting to the Supervisor, Building Maintenance/Construction, the successful candidate is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing locks, key systems, panic alarms and doors for the entire University. The Locksmith is also responsible for developing and maintaining the key management system. Duties and Responsibilities The Locksmith will have a range of responsibilities that include interpreting the master keying guide using appropriate discretion and special knowledge of lock systems to preserve the integrity of the university's master key system while meeting customer requests. S/he will install, service and repair various types of locks and security devices and install and repair door hardware and hydraulic closing fixtures, as well as disassemble/reassemble locks, including repairing and replacing worn tumblers, springs, and other parts. The locksmith will cut new or duplicate keys and stamp with identification, issue keys and maintain records of keys issued and returned. S/he will maintain records of work performed, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain both mechanical locking and electronic key card systems, and ensure proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promote continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices, as well as other duties as assigned. Qualifications The successful candidate will have a High School Diploma/GED and formal training as a locksmith (being a Certified Registered Locksmith (CRL) by Associated Locksmiths of America is preferred) with two years’ experience working in a lock shop. S/he will possess the ability to cut and issue keys, re-key, install and repair locks and hardware, the ability to interpret, implement and maintain pre-defined master key systems, and the ability to use electrical and mechanical tools. The qualified candidate will be skilled in the use of computers, preferably in a PC, Windows-based operating environment, in utilizing building security and lock systems and procedures with the knowledge of how to lay out and estimate a job and the ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgements. The successful candidate must be able to climb up and down a ladder and be physically able to perform the routine demands of the job in an acceptable manner. The position requires the handling of average weight objects up to 25 pounds & standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day. Physical Plant staff are considered essential personnel. The Locksmith will be required to respond to emergency calls on nights, weekends and holidays, must possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted Massachusetts driver’s license and must be bondable. This is a full-time, 40 hour/week, 12 month/year non-exempt position with an anticipated hourly rate between $20.58 and $22.01. The hours are Monday through Friday 7:30 am – 4:00 pm.
